Abraham's ring

This metal-ring symbolizes the three abrahamic religions. It was embedded in the ground at an open market place here in Bad Oldesloe called 'Hude' (September 2011).
It should remind us, to live in peace together and tolerate each other, whatever we believe.
The blue part inside the ring is looking like an angel, therefore it is called angel of cultures.
The ring was 'planted' at several places in Germany and in eastern europe cities up to Istanbul.

The metal pieces in the shape of the Angel of Culture  remains when you produce the ring out of a steel plate by help of a cutting torch. The artists want to pile up all these metal angels to a continuously growing pillar, the so called  Abraham’s Pillar, which they intend to erect at Jerusalem one day.

More about the project you can read here in a brochure.

The "Hauptausschuss" of the city-parliament decided on Monday, 18th of May 2009, that the Street "Weg zum Bürgerpark" will be renamed to "Beer Yaacov Weg דרך באר יעקב".

Brenner Moor

The Mekka of Mennonites

What Mekka means for Muslims,
what Jerusalem for Jews ...
that means Bad Oldesloe for Mennonites!
Why?
Here the Reformer Menno Simons lived and preached, the founder of the free church of Mennonites.
You can still visit his house, the Mennokate

Old history of Oldesloe

The first settlements in this area have their origin 15 000 years ago (The picture shows excavations near the town).

The first written document mentioning the town ("Odeslo") is dated from 1151

1371 the town got the privilege as a marketplace.
At that time Oldesloe was a very important town and had 1500 inhabitants (for comparison: the largest Hanseatic-City Lübeck had 9000 and nearby Hamburg 5000 citizens). 60% of the east-west-trade of those days of the Hanseatic League had to pass Oldesloe (a harbour on the Trave-river provided the possibility of shipping the goods to the Hanseatic-Metropole Lübeck)
